I'm buying from eBay. There are many prices for the same perfume, how do I know if it's authentic?
Here's some tips for buying perfumes on eBay:
1. The more well-known the brand is and the more popular the perfume, the more counterfeits there are for it.
2. Look for lots from sellers who have taken actual pictures of their actual bottle of perfume. Be very wary of sellers who use stock images of the fragrance.
3. When it doubt, ask the seller to take pictures of the actual bottle from three or four different angles.
4. If you have actual photos of the bottle, check it against an official photograph, a bottle that you own, or someone else's pictures of the perfume bottle. Pay attention to the small details and make sure all the design elements are in the right place and do not look weird, poorly done or out of place.
5. If the fragrance is still sealed, then scrutinize the packaging. The packaging should have nice, clean and sharp corners for the box. The design elements should all be in place, and the cellophane wrapping should be crisp, clean, and fit the box snugly.
6. Beware of buying designer perfumes at steep discounts. If someone on eBay is telling you they can sell you a 100ml bottle of Chanel Chance that normal retails for $100+ for only $10, then you should be very suspicious. It is normal to see cheaper prices on eBay but it should be within reason.
7. Check the seller's ratings and look at the negative ratings and neutral ratings they got. If someone alleged they got a fake perfume, note how the seller responded.
